NYFW: Lorena Sarbu A/W 2012, The Box @ Lincoln Center

Upon arriving inside of The Box at Lincoln Center, guests were immediately transported from 10:30AM in the busy Midtown neighborhood to midnight in a dim Manhattan penthouse, where the only people dressed appropriately were the models. Although one might have been distracted by the crowded room and how guests were crammed like sardines trying to get a good photo of the pieces (like every other show), you couldn’t help but feel the romance of the entire presentation. The morning started off fantastically with Lorena Sarbu’s elegantly flawless collection, which was viewed over complimentary mimosas.

NYFW: Farah Angsana A/W 2012, The Studio @ Lincoln Center

In case you’re wondering when my “pinch me, I’m at Fashion Week” moment was, it was on Wednesday February 15th, sitting 2nd row at the Farah Angsana showcase. From the moment the first model walked out, I was floored. Everyone in the audience was gasping. The collection was truly breath-taking. Every piece was just another bang! to out-do yet compliment the piece before it. It just kept getting better any better. Her remarkable use of jewels and stones (and all things shiny in general) in her pieces seem to have become a major trend in many of the A/W 2012 showcases I saw this season, but I must say, Farah Angsana certainly had an extra spark.

London Fashion Week: Invites and Other News

Before arriving to London last Friday, I’d received 3 digital invitations from designers showcasing throughout London Fashion Week. I thought, “Well, three’s not so bad for my first year!” When I had arrived to my hosts’ house, I was handed an entire stack full of mail, all of which were hardcopy invitations to showcases throughout the week. You might say, I was somewhat shocked.

Although I ended up receiving about 15 invites or so altogether, I attended nearly half of those due to lack of preparation, as well as several severe camera malfunctions. I even canceled my day trip to Brussels, which I had scheduled for Saturday. But it was definitely worth it, as I was able to do a bit of sight-seeing in the short amount of time I was allotted in between my shows. My time here has most certainly been chaotic, but I’ve managed to find a few moments of peace, whether it was sitting along the River Thames or sipping tea with new friends at the SoHo Secret Tea Room.

This city is so magical, and the locals and strangers I’ve met at shows and on the street have been so unexpectedly kind to me that even with the short duration of my stay, I feel I’ve submerged into the London experience completely. I’ve covered so much ground in my sequined sneakers, and my hosts even began teaching me Cockney Rhyme Scheme, which I’ve been having loads of fun with.
