I’m not so sure this is a “Do It Yourself” post so much as an “I Do What I Want” post…hence the title.
So almost 4 years ago in 2008, shortly after Charles courted and wooed me, he bought me this hoodie. It’s one of my favorite things he’s ever bought me – actually, it was the first piece of clothing he ever bought me – because of the simplicity of its necessity…. and it was also a perfect fit for my twinkie frame. Only after wearing it a few times, though, the zipper broke, and I never saw getting it fixed as being worth it. So for most of the time these last few years, it’s hung in my closet because Charles insisted I was not allowed to give it away. After today, though, I definitely expect to wear it more now that I’ve ripped off the annoying unused zip lines.
Not entirely sure if Charles will be thrilled with this post, but at least he knows My Favorite Hoodie will be getting some good use again.
I got a pair of scissors and cut the end of the zip. Even though force is involved in pulling the remainder of the zip off, it’s important to be gentle to not accidentally tear the entire thing in half. There are some pretty obvious holes and tears now from ripping the zip line off, which I think most handy girls could easily stitch up with a simple sewing kit, but I like the character it brings…that character being, “I got mugged in an alley and my zipper line was stolen but the guy let me keep the hoodie” kind of deal.
I also picked up a tip from my “I list hardcore rock bands on my MySpace to express how I feel” days and put some safety pins where the pockets are, since inevitable holes were created and my hands just went straight through them when I tried on the hoodie. The safety pins actually work perfectly enough to put some loose change in the pockets if needed.
